We’ve previously tried to drive home the importance of ordering vaccines as early as possible—and, believe it or not, that time is now. Remember: first-ordered, first-delivered. The production, testing, and distribution timeline for vaccine manufacturers is tight, and if anything goes awry, you can expect market shortages or delays. For that reason, it also makes sense to split your order among multiple manufactures.

It’s time to order your Flu Vaccines

As I write this, flu reports are widespread and growing across the U.S., especially incidents of influenza A (H3) viruses, with a reported 4,317 laboratory-confirmed hospitalizations since October 1, 2016. CDC officials continue to recommend that everyone six months and older receives an annual flu vaccination. It’s a solid reminder of the critical role we pharmacists play in caring for our patients’ health. And there is no doubt it is good business: in our own pharmacies, we averaged 283 immunizations per store in the fourth quarter.

Still, we’re already looking ahead to next year: it’s time to order vaccines for the 2017-2018 flu season.
