2015 Project Prevention Champion Award

Jessica Astrup Ehret, frequent contributor on these pages, was awarded the Project Prevention Champion Award in September by the Rice County Chemical Health Coalition, in honor of National Substance Abuse Recovery Month.

“Jessica has been instrumental in helping the Rice County Chemical Health Coalition and the Mayor’s Task Force on Youth Alcohol and Drug Use make strides to ensure that Naloxone is available to community members to prevent opiate-related overdose deaths,” said Denise Reese, youth health coordinator, Northfield Healthy Community Initiative. “Her passion for this issue has led to innovation and efficiency in creating systems that will sustain this effort over time and Sterling Drug’s support of Jessica in her role as Community Pharmacist is unmatched in Rice County.”

A project prevention champion is someone who:

  • helps provide support for a healthier life in our community;
  • helps reduce risk factors for alcohol and drug abuse;
  • supports recovery;
  • builds assets for our youth and other community members.

Jessica writes often as an advocate for pharmacists’ involvement in community health initiatives, hosts a weekly radio show, and practices as a pharmacist Northfield, MN. Congratulations, Jessica!
