Kudos to one of our own Sterling pharmacists!

August 10, 2018 | Pamela Youngberg Dickson

Congratulations to Sterling Northfield pharmacist and Smart-Fill contributor Jessica Astrup Ehret. Jessica has recently been made a finalist for the nationwide Next-Generation Pharmacist Awards in the Rising Star category, an honor given annually to a pharmacist who is defining the future standard of pharmacy practice by his or her professional practice and/or by advocacy in the pharmacy industry.

Jessica received her PharmD from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 2014 and has embraced the future of pharmacy—collaborative and outcomes-based—in her first few years of practice at Sterling Pharmacy in Northfield, MN. She connected with a clinic for underserved and underinsured patients to help them update and revise their formularies. She then recognized an opportunity to partner with the agency to provide more cost-effective treatment options and modernize their protocols in serving patients with chronic diseases. Those efforts were recognized locally by Northfield’s city-owned hospitals and clinics. After significant work and collaboration to extend the partnership, the entities opened a new shared facility in March 2018 to provide both a quick clinic and a transitional care clinic to the community. The model is now a healthcare campus where services can all be provided on-site.

The long-term goal of this campus is to provide much more than a quick clinic—they are providing high-touch, convenient access to well-rounded patient care. The goal is to provide follow-up care after hospital discharge, quick laboratory follow-ups, and polypharmacy interventions in order to reduce hospital readmissions, reduce costs, improve collaboration between healthcare providers, and improve access to pharmacist services.

At Smart-Fill, we’re very proud of all the pharmacists in our Sterling pharmacies who are making a difference in patients’ lives, and we are especially thrilled that Jessica has been recognized by this highly-regarded awards program.
